Accept Your Gift

Art of Loving Series

“Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.” Romans 12:6-8 God has blessed us with gifts in many areas of our lives, but often He has given each of us an immense portion in one or a couple specific areas. We encourage you to look at each of the gifts and try to see where God can use you best in blessing others with His love. Prophecy “Spiritually minded” propheteia; prediction Those who speak from divine inspiration & declaring the purposes of God, by: 1. Admonishing the wicked, or 2. Comforting the afflicted, or 3. Revealing things hidden; esp. by foretelling future events. Before knowing Christ, you have always been sensitive or interested in spiritual things. Perhaps before your salvation you were interested in religions, angels, spirits, etc. As a Christian, you love to share Jesus with others. You always have a word from the Lord and are always God conscious. Ministry “Service/helper oriented” diakonia; attendance as a servant Those who help meet needs, spiritual and practical, by serving in what needs to be done. 1. Those who, by the command of God, proclaim and promote religion among men. 2. Service associated with the following offices: apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers. 3. Assisting needs by either collecting or distributing charities in the office of the deacon in the church. You have always enjoyed volunteering for projects and taking care of people — especially the very young or very old. As a Christian, you love to serve. There are many offices in the church for those with this gift. Care people, who maintain contact with those who have not been around. Ushers, who care for the needs of the congregation during church service. And deacons, who help meet the practical and spiritual needs of the people of the church. Teaching “Able to show how and why” didasko; to teach/hold discussion with others to instruct Those who are graced by God with the responsibility of imparting Godly knowledge to the congregation. 1. To be a teacher, to teach one to impart instruction. 2. To instill doctrine. 3. To explain or expound a thing. You always had a desire and love to instruct, to show others how to understand and do things. You enjoy making complex concepts understood in simple terms. As a Christian, you may be involved in roles of teaching in the church — children’s church, youth group, Biblical instruction, home group leaders, and personal discipleship of others. Exhorting “Encouraging optimism” parakaleo; to call near Those who are graced by God to edify fellow believers through their words and view. 1. To encourage others to do and be their best. 2. To give a positive point of view and words of encouragement in difficulties.. 3. To advise and admonish when correction is needed. You generally have a positive attitude, always seeing the cup as half filled. You tend to encourage and strengthen others who are disheartened. As a Christian, you may counsel fellow believers who need someone to stand by their side during tough times. (2 Corinthians 4:9.) Often you can intercede in faith for those who can’t see God’s sovereignty over life’s circumstances. Or you may be the right person to bring correction to someone or a situation. Giving “Cheerful generosity ” metadidomi; to give over, share, to impart Those who are graced by God to give with liberality in their time, energy, talents, possessions, and finances. 1. To make one’s goods available to those in need. 2. To host and offer hospitality with their homes. 3. To provide financial support to assist others meet their needs. You have always been willing to hand over your possessions to others when a need is known. Possessions are not important to you, people are. As a child you may have been willing to give your toys away, since one of the greatest joys for you is giving. As a Christian, you may enjoy hosting events and home groups at your home. You are also very generous with your finances beyond your tithe, either in supporting your church’s financial needs or the needs of those in the church body. Works in the mission field involve all of these aspects of giving. Leading “Taking charge ” proistemi; to stand before, to preside, to rule Those who have a God given ability to carry authority over others and maintain direction, in natural and spiritual matters. 1. To preside over, superintend, and direct. 2. To be a protector and guardian over people and responsibilities. 3. To rise to the occasion in trying circumstances. You have always found yourself giving orders and instruction to others and they follow through. The quality of a leader is that others tend to follow. When younger, you may have found yourself the one who maintained the circle of friends. As a Christian, you may find yourself participating in important decisions over ministries and may even be fit to lead one. Husbands and wives are spiritual leaders over their households, and we may be spiritual leaders to others in the world. Mercy “Compassionate empathy ” eleeo; to be compassionate (by word or deed, especially by divine grace) Those who are moved to compassionate action by the misfortune of others. 1. To outpour help after hearing of hardship. 2. To listen with empathy to those who need an ear to hear. 3. To bring mercy and compassion to the poor and helpless. You find yourself listening more than speaking in conversation and easily put everything else aside when you see perceive of hurt and misfortune in others. Someone gifted in empathy does not only understand the hardship of others, but shares and feels the same as they do. As a Christian, you are able to open yourself up to fellow believers, that they may abide and confide in your company. You may also find yourself moved by ministries that help the poor and needy, such as serving in a food pantry, donating clothing to the less fortunate, or giving gifts for Operation Christmas Child.
